Exact value

Good for commodities in competitive categories. Downside: it exposes real stock and lets competitors infer your sales volume.

Range value

E.g. "10+", "50+", "well stocked". It creates scarcity without leaking exact numbers — the most common compromise.

In-stock / out-of-stock only

Good for manual fulfilment where capacity depends on a human queue. It lowers delivery-time expectations.

One hard rule

The displayed figure may differ from real stock, but validation must use the real value. Display is for conversion; validation is to avoid overselling.
